Stand by me streaming. Stand buy me love. I love this film. Like many people, i love the character Chris Chambers. He's sweet, he's kind and he's a damn good friend to Gordie. He's not a violent bully like his father and older brother, in fact he's just the opposite. He's a peacemaker. He's not destructive. He comforts his friends when they cry. He stops one from committing suicide. He's wise. He's articulate. He has good manners. And he's only about 15, perhaps younger. It's all a very nice story.
But that is all it is, a story.
Let's be honest now, if this was real life there is no way any of this would play out how it did in the film or the book. Someone with Chris's background would no way have gone to college and became a lawyer. I doubt he would even be friends with Gordie. In reality, he would have probably bullied him mercilessly because he was jealous he came from a stable home. Chris's father is an alcoholic and beats him and probably all the women and children in his family.
His brother eyeball Chambers is no better. He doesn't work. Hes in a gang, and like his father, beats his little brother and allows his friends to do the same.
Now if this was real life, Chris, like all young men would copy the male role models in his life. He wouldn't know how to be anything else. So at least make it a little believable and don't make his character, against all odds grow up to be a lawyer, it's completely obsurd and it totally ruined the ending.
A more convincing ending would be he's either in jail, an alcoholic or works a dead end job and has several kids he never sees. That would be plausible and you won't feel like you're being completely manipulated by being sold some fantasy which we all know doesn't exist in the real world. Just look at what happened to the actor that played Chris, that's reality.
